45. 1997 – 1998      All American State Commander A.E. (Gene) Hall  A. E. “GENE” Hall was elected to the office of State Commander, Veterans of Foreign Wars Department of Florida in June of 2004 at the 74th annual convention in Orlando, Florida. Gene originally joined the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Jacksonville, Florida Post 7909 in 1979 and has maintained his membership there since his return from Australia in 1983. During his tenure, Gene has held the positions of Post Commander from 1993-1995, Post Quartermaster 1995-2003, District Commander 1997-1998 and was elected State Surgeon in 2001. Gene continued his rein through the chairs of the Department culminating as an all American State Commander. Gene has also held many State and National Appointments in the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He is served on the State and National legislative committee and on the State Budget and Finance Committee.

Born in Woodruff, South Carolina, he left high school and enlisted in the US Navy on valentines day 1958 where he later earned his high school diploma along with an AS degree in Management and a BS in Education during the 34 years and 3 months he served on active duty while rising through the ranks to SCPO, CWO, and Limited Duty Officer where he retired as a Commander on 1 May 1992. ( Gene is also a member of the Fleet Reserve Association, Military Officer’s Association, American Legion, Orange Park Lodge #267 F&AM, Jacksonville Scottish Rite Bodies, Morocco Shrine and The Military Order of the Cooties.

Gene is a widower and has three grown children Teresa, Duane and Michael and nine grand children. Gene resides in Orange Park, Florida.  He recently married to Diane Hall December of 2015.

63. 2013 -2014 Commander: John Burgess Middleburg Post 8255, From Boston Massachusetts US Naval Aviation Ordnanceman Chief Petty Officer (AW).  In 2003 I retired after 22 years of service. Served with VFA-81 onboard the USS George Washington off the coast of Afghanistan and Iraq in 2002, Operation Enduring Freedom and Global War On Terrorism..  Hometown Dedham Massachusetts and resident of Florida since August 1990.  Past commander 2 years of Post 8255 in Middleburg Florida from 2008 to 2010.  Served as MOC District 6 Quartermaster/Adjutant and Past Commanders Club VFW Florida Quartermaster/Adjutant, Life Member VFW,  AMVETS, Aviation Ordnanceman Association and an Annual member of American Legion. Served in the United States Navy and retired Machinist’s Mate Senior Chief (SW/AW). 1980 – 2006. Deployed in support of Persian Gulf War, Desert Storm, Desert Shield, Desert Fox, Operation Enduring Freedom and Global War On Terrorism. VFW Life Member since 2002 Served as VFW Post 4761 Surgeon from 2004 -06. Served as VFW Post 4761 Senior Vice Commander from 2006 – 08. Elected Commander of VFW Post 4761 in 2008-2012. Selected All State 2008-10. District Six Citizenship Education, Americanism, Chairman 2008-12. Elected District Six Surgeon 2011-12, National and Departmental Aid de Camp 2008-10. Departmental SVA Liaison 2014-16, Department Veterans in College Chairman 2011-16. Member of the American Legion 2003, MOC 2011.
