Soperton VFW presents Public Servant Award

 The Elder Collins VFW Post 10925 has awarded its Public Servant Award to Lt. Gordon Foster

Deputy Foster was born in 1955 in Leesburg, Florida.

After graduation from Leesburg High School he enlisted in the United States Army in November of 1973.  Gordon served on active duty from January of 1974 through January of 1977 in military intelligence and was awarded the Army Commendation Medal for meritorious service.  From January of 1977 until January of 1980 he served in the Army Reserve and National Guard and was honorably discharged.

Gordon attended Lake-Sumter College and obtained an Associate of Arts in criminology in 1980.

Also in 1980 Gordon met and married the former Gina Moore of Ailey, Georgia.  They moved to Treutlen county in March of 1981 and have made their home there since then.  Gina is a registered nurse and they have one daughter, Jade.

His career in the criminal justice field began in May of 1977 and he has served numerous agencies in many positions.  Starting as a patrol officer he also had a tenure as a motorcycle officer and was a sergeant with both the Dublin Police Department and later with the Department of Corrections.

Deputy Foster has served the citizens of Treutlen county as a deputy sheriff since May of 2013.

The award was presented by post Commander Shane Scott at the January meeting of the post and was accepted on behalf of Lt. Foster by Sheriff Tommy Corbin.
