On Saturday, April 8th, 2017, members of District 1 met at the Harrison Co. Post located in Bethany, MO. The joint meeting of the VFW and Auxiliary was opened by District 1 Cdr. Don Brockmeier shortly after 11:00 am. Chaplain John Krumpelmann then took over and conducted the annual Memorial Service for our departed comrades. Adjutant Ruth Ann Shipps read the 30 plus names of VFW and Auxiliary members that had passed since last April.
Following the lunch break, Cdr. Brockmeier called the regular meeting of the VFW to order. Following the roll call of District officers and roll call of the Posts, Adjutant Shipps read the minutes of the last meeting. QM Denker gave his report on the District funds. James Rippy was then called on the present the winner of the Teacher of the Year award. Brenda Hamm, an 8th Grade teacher with the Richmond Middle School, Richmond, MO., was unable to attend so she will receive it at a later date.
There was little or no old business to be handled. Under New business, the locations for future meetings was decided. The only other new business was the nominations and elections of officers for the 2017-2018 term. Most of the current officers retained their positions for another year with the exception of District Advocate. District 12 Cdr. Ken Allison, who is running for Dept. Surgeon, was asked to be the installing officer.
Following the comments for the good of the order, the meeting was closed at 2:30 pm.
