Decorating the Graves of the Unknowns at Christmas time is a project taken on by the 12th. District Veterans of Foreign Wars of the State of Missouri. The date for decorating is Saturday December 2, 2017. The meeting place is the Administration Building at Jefferson Barracks which is just inside the main gate at the Cemetery. The time is 9:00 a.m. We will meet and have a short program and disperse from there. The reason for the project is to honor the Unknowns by a flower at the grave site. We also will need help removing the decorations. This will be done the second Saturday of January 13 2018. We will meet at 9:00 a.m. the 13 of January 2018 to do this as regulations do not allow the decorations to remain all winter. We need all the help we can get. There are over 3200 sites to decorate so the more the merrier.
This is also a great Venue for Scouting Troops and other Organizations to work with.
Directions to Jefferson Barracks Cemetery. I-270 to Telegraph Road Exit. Travel North on Telegraph Road to third traffic signal and turn right onto Sheridan Road. This is the Main Gate to J.B. Administration Building is on the right. Parking is in rear of building.
As many Comrades come from all over, All VFW Posts from District 8 and District 9 are invited to assist. The Posts close by in Illinois are also invited. Also, Scouting Organizations and Other Youth Groups can find this as an excellent way of gaining their Community Service Credit.
