VFW District 15 and Ladies Auxiliary Joint School of Instruction 2014

SeventeenĀ of; nineteen posts in District 15 met at Post 3174 (Sikeston) for their annual School of Instruction and District 15 Meeting. VFW members as well as LAVFW enjoyed a great banquet prior to both meetings. District Norm Morgan presided over the District School of Instruction and District Meeting and introduced out of district guests – Phil Pippins, past state commander and candidate for Council of Administration; and, Nancy Cowan, Department Senior-Vice Commander. After a thorough review of all the state programs and goals, chairmen were reminded of their duties and obligations. Awards were presented to posts that did not receive their recognition at the State Convention. VFW Calendars were allocated among the posts present with the admonition to sell the calendars as lottery chances ($20 for chances for $17,000). Assistant Veterans Service Officer (and Dexter Commander) Robert Myers gave an excellent overview of Veteran Referral process and some success stories that motivated posts to be alert to community veterans who have not yet filed for benefits, as well as surviving spouse filings and requirements. An excellent duo of meetings with friends and fellow veterans…….Olin Parks, State Judge Advocate
