District 18 and Ladies Auxiliary Quarterly Meeting

    The quarterly meeting of District 18 and it's Ladies Auxiliary was held on Saturday, August 6, 2011 at Cabool VFW Post 473 in Texas County, Missouri.  The meeting was well attended with all Posts in District 18 represented.  Seven Post Commanders were in attendance.  The official representative from the Dept of Mo was Dept Surgeon Tom Mundell of Post 3944.  Jim Gill, past Dept Inspector and member of Post 2210, was present to announce his candidacy for the office of Dept Surgeon for 2012-2013.


    The meeting was opened in due form at 1000 hours by District 18 Commander Chris Johnston with District Chaplain Georg Andersen of Post 3770 giving the opening prayer.
    All 11 posts presented an oral Post Commander Report.

    Legislative Officer Charlie Dickinson, Past District Commander and member of  Post 3135, informed the members present of the Veterans Rally to take place in the capitol rotunda on September 14 in Jefferson City and explained the purpose of this rally.  He urged all that could to attend this important rally.


   Surgeon Mundell covered many subjects and talked extensively about each.  Subjects covered were the plight of the Mo Veterans Homes, the success of the recent Leadership Academy held in District 18,  Buddy Poppy cans and placing them in businesses year round, POW/MIA,  VSO Program and thanked the posts in District 18 for their support in this valuable program, the need for all members to be willing and able to fill out the referral forms for veterans, and the Forest Park Veterans Festival.  He also invited all to attend the St Louis Cardinals Baseball game on September 3rd and help present the world's largest POW/MIA flag before the game.  Surgeon Mundell also informed us that he had tickets to that game for sale at a reduced price.


    Jim Gill told us of his work and experience as Dept Inspector.  He served in that position for 10 years and he also informed us of the need for volunteers for the Forest Park Veterans Festival and that he was in charge of coordinating the volunteers. He further asked for our support in his quest for Dept Surgeon.

    Past District 18 Commander Vernon "Butch" LaMont presented 100% membership shirts to Post 7222 Quartermaster George Lockwood.

    District 18 CDR and Alton Post 1014 CDR Chris Johnston is shown accepting a donation from Cabool VFW Post 473 CDR Steve Box to aid the post with recovering from their recent fire.

   The meeting was closed and all were ready for a break.
