Members of Joplin VFW Post 5293 joined forces with Compass Quest Veteran Services and Christ’s Community United Methodist Church (CCUMC) Men’s Ministry to begin an extensive wheelchair ramp project for a disabled veteran and her family. The ramp materials were donated by the widow of another area veteran and the ramp team built a small approach platform connecting the existing deck to the new ramp. VFW Post 5293 members included Commander Fred Pugh and others. The elevation of the home added challenges and after 8 hours of hard work the project is about 80% complete. The team will reconvene in about a week when the remaining material is delivered. The Colvin family is extremely grateful for this generous show of support from the community. Collaboration was key in getting this project off the ground. Compass Quest is a regional veteran peer to peer non-profit that works exclusively with veterans in the area. The founders are both members of VFW Post 5293 and co-founder and President Amy Donaldson is the current District 7 Commander. Compass Quest collaborated with VFW Post 5293 and CCUMC Men’s Ministry for expertise and manpower. Well done to everyone in this joint endeavor!
