Shell Knob Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2203 (one of 14 posts in District 7) will once again put on their Christmas extravaganza that fills their post home with about 200 Christmas Trees, almost 80,000 lights and several Christmas themed scenes along with O, HO and G-Scale Train sets interspersed within the huge presentation. VFW Post 2203 Commander Dave Atkinson along with many hard-working post members and auxiliary members work for weeks to make the Christmas Extravaganza possible. The first day of this 3-day event will be open to the public. According to Commander Atkinson, “We have been doing this for 20 years. We will have an open house for the public on Friday December 14th from 1000-1500 (10 AM to 3 PM) and 1700-1900 (5 PM to 7 PM). Saturday 15 December is for the Kids as Santa will be there (he is a member of our Post and drives up from Texas) from 1000-1400 (10 AM to 2 PM). Sunday, 16 December we invite Veterans from the Mt. Vernon Veterans Home to come down, see the decorations, get pictures taken with Santa, eat lunch and play bingo (we insure that every Vet wins)!” The post usually hands out over 100 presents to area children who visit during the Extravaganza.
