Walking down the hallway, the smell of turkey, the thought of getting ready to have a feast and visit with wonderful people, it must be Thanksgiving time. I love this holiday.
That is the thought that I hope everyone has when they come to VFW Post 5789 for our free Thanksgiving dinner Thursday, Nov. 26. The address is 329 SE Douglas in Lee’s Summit and we will have turkey, ham and all of the fixings. It is open to the public and Sue Steverson and I will be serving dinner from 11am – 4pm and would love to see you all.
We took this dinner over about eight years ago. The VFW Ladies Auxiliary has done it for years, and we are members, but we don’t have a lot of family here like the other members do, so since we love the holiday so much here we are. We love the fact that we can give back to the ladies and have them spend this day with their family. We appreciate that the post makes it so we can do this. All of the food is donated by members of the Post and Auxiliary and dessert is donated by Wilshire Care Center in Lee’s Summit.
With everything going on in this world, it means so much to us that we are able to do this for our community. You will not leave hungry and you may just make some new friends, as we have seen that happen year after year.
Whether you don’t have family, or you don’t want to cook or can’t afford Thanksgiving dinner, we will be so happy to see you. We do not expect anything from you except for you to enjoy your meal and leave full.
