During the month of February the VFW Post 5923 received the help of Ft. Leonard Wood Soldiers attached to work in the Tax Center in efforts to raise money for the Polar Bear Plunge for the Special Olympics. With the guidance of their NCOIC, SFC Sifuentes, Roy, a life member of the post, the soldiers, Auxiliary President Doug Thompson, and other VFW Members helped raise over $2,000 for the Special Olympics. These soldiers also made a trip to our post to prepare taxes for those veterans, and retired military personnel who could not make the long trip to Fort Leonard Wood.
Doug Thompson, President of the Auxiliary; Rosy Sifuentes, Post 5923 Surgeon; and Frank Geilfuss, Events Committee member, thanked these soldiers by awarding them a certificate of appreciation from our post and gave these soldiers a Post coin. This is the first time the Tax Center in Ft. Leonard Wood had volunteered its services to our community. We hope to have them make the trip again next year!
