The 2017 Veteran Affairs Day held on 28 April as a joint VFW and American Legion Posts event was a great success. The event held every year since 2015, has been a great way to bring much needed services from the VA and state level agencies to the Ozarks. According to latest census figures, there are 6400 plus veterans in the four counties surrounding Dent County where the event took place at the home of VFW Post 6280 and American Legion Post 99. This year, over 96 families signed up for the various services offered to include enrollment into the VA Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center’s healthcare system, discussion with VA’s St Louis Regional Benefits Office, Columbia Vet Center counseling services, the Missouri Veteran’s Commission, Missouri’s Veteran Employment Counseling services and non-governmental organizations. Representatives from US Senator Claire McCaskill’s office and US Congressman Jason Smith were also on hand.
