Post 7356 VFW Auxiliary

South Platte Memorial Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary to Post 7356

The Auxiliary celebrated the 10th anniversary of receipt of its charter in June 2004 in 2014. In 2015, we are proud to expand to accept male relatives of Veterans who served in a Foreign War. We are proudly affiliated with the Department of Missouri and the National Auxiliary to VFW.  The Ladies Auxiliary was founded September 14, 1914.  Women related to Spanish American War Veterans founded the organization.  The Auxiliary’s original responsibility was to assist veterans and their families, promote patriotism and raise funds to help veterans in need.

100 years after its founding as the Ladies Auxiliary, the Auxiliary still works to insure that America’s Veterans will not be forgotten and those in need receive assistance as needed.  The Auxiliary’s motto is “Unwavering Support for Uncommon Heroes”.  We support a number of activities to carry out this commitment.  We support National Military Services, which has four parts: Operation Uplink, the Military Assistance Program, Unmet Needs, and the Sports Clips Help a Hero Scholarship Program.  The Auxiliary supports the VFW National Home for Children in Eaton Rapids, Michigan.

Locally, the Auxiliary works closely with our post on projects.  We assist Veterans and our troops in a number of ways.  We purchased hoodies for troops deploying to Afghanistan from Ft. Riley and made fleece blankets for them to give to their children. We purchase socks to give to male Veterans in the VA Hospital for Father’s Day and totes for female Veterans in the VA Hospital for Mother’s Day.  We purchase combs to be distributed to patients in the VA Hospital.  We purchase coffee and condiments for use at the hospital. We have made baby blankets to give to the new arrivals for enlisted troops and donated to the Blankets for Babies Program at Whiteman Air Force Base in Warrensburg. We donate to support the Missouri Cottage at the National Children’s Home, have given money to help purchase a van for transportation there, and contributed to remodeling of the Guest Cottage bathrooms.  We provide food to the VFW members who work on special projects, such as the recent repair of a Veteran in Need’s deck. We support the Voice of Democracy, Patriot’s Pen, and Patriotic Art Scholarship Programs for youth. We donated money to upgrade the National Home Computer System in 2015.

Membership is open to wives, husbands, sisters, brothers, mothers, fathers,  grandmothers, grandfathers, sons, daughters, widows, widowers of Veterans who served in a qualifying foreign war. You must be at least age 16 and a U. S. Citizen to be eligible for membership.  Annual dues are $25 and life memberships are available.  For more information, email the Auxiliary at

  1. There was no vote “disbanding” the Mens Auxiliary. Only that the name of the Ladies Auxiliary would morph to Auxiliary and male relatives of eligible veterans can join the new Auxiliary.

  2. I am with Platte County Board of Services for the Developmentally Disabled. We are building a fully inclusive playground in Platte County that will benefit the entire community. This playground will be accessible not only for children with and without disabilities but also for veterans and senior citizens that have limited mobility by providing them access to the playground itself and all the equipment so they can take their children to play. We are currently looking for volunteers to help us assemble the equipment on Friday, May 13, 2016. There are two shifts for individuals to volunteer-one from 11 am to 1 pm and one from 2 pm to 4 pm. I would be glad to come and talk with the veterans about this project if there is a time available.
