Post 4286

Post 4286, Newland, NC

A message from our post commander, Kevin Holden (U.S. Army, retired):

Thank you for visiting our post blog. You can find information here about our post, its members and our activities in our community. Our post received its charter in 1945 and is named in honor of Pat Ray, an Avery County native who perished in World War I.

Post 4286 lies atop the Blue Ridge and serves the Newland and Avery County areas. We are blessed to live in one of the most beautiful locations in the South, ringed by Grandfather, Sugar, Beech and Roan Mountains. Our post is a vital part of Avery County and is involved in many areas. Our Honor Guard is made up of more than 20 members and renders honors at  more than 50 military memorial services each year. We also have an active Ladies Auxiliary.

The post has members ranging in experience from World War II to Afghanistan. As many members are advanced in age and can not participate as much now, we are always seeking new members. If you are a veteran in our area, please contact me so we can discuss eligibility. Our post is not just a club, we are a brotherhood who serve and support each other and the veterans in our community. Feel free to call the post at (828) 733-9981 or email cdrpost4286@nc.vfwwebmail.com.
