A Weekend to Remember

In every sense of the word the last weekend in May was a weekend to remember…it began on Saturday with Buddy Poppy distribution…

Then came a surprise!  One of our more advanced in age members, Tony DeBiase decided to stop by with son-in-law Dan O’Reilly to help celebrate Tony’s 99th Birthday that day with a bit of scotch whiskey.

Then came the really, really big day…Memorial Day Monday…when 250+ showed up to hear special guest speaker SGM Chuck Jarrell from the US Army Special Operations Command at Ft. Bragg, who reminded all of them to make sure the “memorial” is kept in Memorial Day…

Then…when it appeared there were no more surprises…another happened!  Frank Pinkerton, well-known for his craftsmanship that has resulted in military airplane and ship models, presented Pat Patterson, shot down in his B-24 after leaving Italy on a World War Two mission July 15, 1944 and held prisoner by the Germans for 10 and a half months before being liberated, with a model of his aircraft, complete with the nickname of the plane…

Truly, a weekend to remember…
