Caswell County Casualties

Our small town has not escaped the tragedy of losses as a result of armed conflict.  We have done a little research to build a list of local losses.  We are starting with the Vietnam War.  Here is what we know.

For Vietnam, we lost five people.  They are

  • SP5 John Willie Blackwell, U.S. Army, Yanceyville, Caswell County, NC.  Died Apr 6, 1969.
  • SSG Ralph Mitchell, U.S. Army, Blanch, Caswell County, NC.  Died Oct 23, 1964.
  • LCPL James Michael Richards, U.S. Marine Corps, Pelham, Caswell County, NC.  Died Aug 22, 1968.
  • PFC Billy Lee Snipes, U.S. Army, Pelham, Caswell County, NC.  Died Oct. 1, 1967.
  • SP4 Kenneth Earl Wade, U.S. Army, Yanceyville, Caswell County, NC.  Died Feb 23, 1969.
  • PFC  John Thomas Webster, U.S. Army, Yanceyville native and Bartlett Yancey High School student.   Died Jan 10, 1968.  Moved to Burlingon, Alamance County, before joining Army and departing for Vietnam.

If your family had a loss in Vietnam, but it was not recorded because you have recently relocated to Caswell County, let us know.  We will add their name to our list for recognition during local memorial services for our veterans.  Contact us:

    I just learned of your plan to honor my late father, SSG Ralph Mitchell, who was killed in action in Vietnam in 1964 when I was two years old. I would like to say “thank you” for your time and efforts to honor my father and others from Caswell County.
