On Monday March 19th, at 6:30 p.m., in the “Old Historic Courthouse” in Yanceyville,a “Proclamation” will be read welcoming home Vietnam Veterans.  It will be  at the beginning of the meeting.  The proclamation will contain recognition of the six Caswell County Veterans that were Killed in Action (KIA) in Vietnam.
Fred Smith, Post Commander, reports, “I have researched and found relatives from all six of the Veterans. I have spoken to some of the family members of four, so far.”  He also stated that the Post 7316 Service Officer joined him on a visit to the mother of of of the Veterans.  She lives in Burlington and will be 96 soon.  She plans on attending the meeting.  Fred is doing his best to ensure that all six families will be able to attend.
Fred Smith also stated, “My wife and I went to DC and visited the Wall last weekend and got the rubs from all six. The rubs will be shared with the families.  At the meeting myself and the Chairman will present a framed “Proclamation” to each family that is present.”
We thank the Chairman and the Clerk to the Board.  They have  been so supportive, even allowing the post commander to help with the writing of the proclamation.
These Vietnam veterans will also be the focal point of our Caswell County Memorial Day Ceremony on May 28th, at 11 p.m. in our “Old Historic Courthouse.
All local veterans and members of our post are encouraged to attend.  The event is also open to all posts in our district.
