The Veterans of Fearrington are presenting a program on World War II and the Pacific Theater. It is on Thursday, November 20, 2014, at the Gathering Place at 7:30 pm. Major James Dyer, US Marine Corps (Retired), is speaking.
Among Major Dyer’s assignments was to provide personal security for the Commander South Pacific Fleet. One of the Commanders of the South Pacific Fleet was Admiral William F. Halsey. This unusual position placed Major Dyer near the most important battles of WW II in the South Pacific. Come hear some of his experiences during those dangerous times in our history. Major Dyer was also in combat during the Korean War. After retirement, Major Dyer earned his Doctorate in School Psychology and was employed by in Washington DC, as well as a local school system, as an advisor in teacher education programs.
