VFW Ladies Auxiliary

The Ladies Auxilary for our post is an important part of the service provided our veterans.  They look after the welfare of hospitalized veterans, raise money to help both active duty personnel and veterans.  Here is just a short list of the things that our local Ladies Auxiliary does in our area.

First is our commitment to helping our Veterans through programs with the VA Hospitals, with individual families, and through community awareness of the needs of Veterans.  At our meetings we collectively decide what we need to make or collect.  Then we get to work to fill those kits with toiletries for the men and women at the hospital or collect socks and magazines to ship overseas to name just a few.

We work with the schools through our annual contests.  Winners of the Patriots Pen (written essays) and Voice of Democracy (speeches) contests receive scholarship money.  There is also a Patriots Art contest each year.   In addition, we recognize a teacher who has exemplified service and citizenship in his/her students.  All of these are national contests.

To help fund our work with Veterans and their families we distribute Buddy Poppies throughout the community.  We get to tell the important story of how that  program came to be.

We are actively involved with the  annual  events and activities of Memorial Day and Veterans Day.  From placing flags on the graves of our fallen  to  providing information, games and treats for the kids that help them learn  about those who gave them their freedoms.
