Notes from the Commander – April 2017 Comrades, Sisters, and Brothers. Our core programs are now completed and it is time to concentrate or the remaining issue for the Post to attain All-State status. Thanks to an annual member renewing their membership this last month, the Post needs 4 additional members to attain 100% of last year’s membership, and 5 renewed or new members to attain All-State status. In an effort to increase the Post’s visibility in the community, a fundraising /recruiting /Poppy drive will be held at the Lowe’s store on April 7 and 8. A request for these

Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 10247, P.O. Box 1418, Fernley, NV 89408 Notes from the Commander – March 2017 Comrades, Sisters, and Brothers, This indeed was a short month and activity by the Post was also short. Not having a quorum at the February Post meeting definitely placed a damper on any discussions about a recruiting/fundraiser for the month of March. This month’s upcoming Post meeting agenda will have to address the schedule for recruiting and fundraising activity, probably for the remainder of the year, so planning and requests can made to local businesses. The deadline for the Post to

Notes from the Commander – February 2017 Comrades, Sisters, and Brothers; We didn’t have a quorum at the January meeting so no business was conducted, but the members at the meeting were given a presentation by the Fernley Improvement Club, soliciting service minded members to help with the custodianship of the Fernley Community Center. They are an independent non-profit group that takes care of the Fernley Community Center on Center Street, and get their operating funds through rental of the center. They are not connected to the city of Fernley in any way. Anyone interested in serving your community in

Notes from the Commander – January 2017 Comrades, Sisters & Brothers, Here we are starting a new calendar year, which means that the VFW year 2016-2017 is half over. The membership goal of 100% to be reached by Mid-Winter Conference appears to be unreachable at this moment. To assist in reaching as close to this goal as possible, I am encouraging the annual members whose dues are renewal in the next three months, to go ahead and renew now. This will not change your renewal date for future dues. The Post had a very successful fund raising drive on December

Notes from the Commander – December 2016 Comrades, Sisters, & Brothers, Here’s hoping that you had a Happy Thanksgiving, and are looking forward to a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Patriot Pen entries totaled 84 combined from the Fernley Intermediate School and Silverland Middle School. The top entrant was forwarded to District level judging, and took the top position at that level and was forwarded to State level Only one entry for the Voice of Democracy was received and forwarded to District level judging, and was not advanced any further. Overall, I feel that we had a very successful

Notes from the Commander – November 2016 Comrades, Sisters, and Brothers. Another busy month ahead of us, with patriotic, community, Post, and VFW activities during the month. Our fund raiser this last month can be called successful, with nearly $800 being raised through donations, and item sales. Only a few people showed interest in joining the Post with only 4 applications being taken. Enough of dwelling on the past and time to look forward to the upcoming months. Holding another fund raiser will be discussed at the November meeting, in hopes to increase sales before Christmas. Veteran’s Day is coming

Notes from the Commander – October 2016 Comrades, Sisters, & Brothers, Fall is in the air and the activity for the Post and VFW in general is ramping up. We have a Buddy Poppy/recruiting/fund rising drive scheduled for October, just before Veteran’s Day, the Nevada Day Parade in Carson City, Post 3396 1st Poker Run, and of course, the VOD and PP entries are due on November first. Also during this month we will begin planning for the Veteran’s Day Parade in Reno. A request was put in to Scolari’s for October 21 & 22 from 9 to 5pm for

Comrades, Brothers and Sisters, Another month this year has disappeared with quite a bit of activity around July 4th. The Post float entry in the Fourth of July Parade placed first in the veteran organization group, and we had a fairly successful time at our booth at the Out-of-Town Park despite having the replacement caps we ordered stuck at the Sparks UPS Facility over the holiday. We have received the caps now and are ready to rock at our next fund raiser (TBA). Schools also start session this month so the VOD and PP Scholarship Programs will be priority in

Notes from the Commander – July 2016 Comrades, Brothers and Sisters, The Department Convention held in Las Vegas June 9-12 was a very good with the Post receiving numerous awards and certificates from both Department and National. The Post was recognized as being on the All-State Team having completed all core requirements and showing growth by achieving 100% of last year’s membership plus one. We were also recognized on the Department All-Star team by achieving over 100% of last year’s membership. Certificates were also awarded to the Post and Auxiliary for active participation in the National Scholarship and Citizenship Programs.

Notes from the Commander – September 2016 Comrades, brothers and Sisters, Not too much activity during the past month and little planned for the upcoming month. This is the usual slow time for the Post waiting for the VOD and Patriot Pen entries to be submitted by November 1. I will be bringing it up at the next meeting if the Post wants to do another Poppy/fund raising/recruiting drive before our usual drive around Veteran’s Day. We do need some additional funds to insure that the Post will be able to purchase certificates for each student as well as having

Notes from the Commander – June 2016 Comrades, Brothers and Sisters, First, I must thank all the members of Post 10247 for the outstanding work and commitment during the past year. On April 27, two annual members renewed their membership which qualified Post 10247 for All-State Status. Throughout the preceding months, members have been committed to supporting our core programs such as our scholarship, citizenship, recruiting, fund raising, Buddy Poppy, and Community Service programs. Through these programs, Post 10247 has increased visibility within the community. I look forward to having another year as good or better than this one, but

Comrades, Brothers and Sisters,   The District 3 Convention is over, officers elected, and waiting for the Department Convention to assume duties.  The Post Officers elect will also assume duties upon adjournment of the Department Convention.   In April, sufficient Auxiliary members were present to elect a full complement of officers and their charter was not submitted for de-activation.  The Auxiliary is still in critical condition and needs the Post’s help during recruiting drives to recruit eligible members for the Auxiliary, particularly those that would be willing to assume duties as an officer.  Any member that is willing to participate
