Veterans Memorial Park Captures Title of “America’s Favorite Park”
Communities Rally to Rebuild Just Months After Tornado Devastated City
Park to Receive $100,000 Grant from Coca-Cola During Veterans Day Celebration
WHAT: Nearly six months after a devastating tornado struck Moore, Okla., there’s some good news coming for the people of that town. This summer, people from around the country voted Veterans Memorial Park as “America’s Favorite Park” in Coca-Cola’s America Is Your Park campaign. With the title comes a $100,000 recreation grant that will be presented at a family-friendly event this Friday, November 8. City of Moore Mayor Glenn Lewis will accept the grant, which will help restore the damaged playground so families can play together again.
Families are invited to help celebrate the win at a check presentation and groundbreaking ceremony. People will be able to participate in an activity walk, hear the Highland East Junior High band play the National Anthem and witness the American Legion Post 184 present the colors. There will also be prizes and fun giveaways.
WHY: This summer, Coca-Cola challenged people to “Take It To The Park” to help their favorite park win recreation grants in the fourth-annual America Is Your Park campaign. The Moore community and people from across the country got active to help Veterans Memorial Park win top honors. Recreation grants were awarded to three additional winning parks to help restore, build or enhance activity areas in the parks. Visit www.Coke.com/Parks to find out more.
