Honor Flight Trip Planned for Saturday, April 28 2012

The First District of the Department of Virginia VFW applauds Honor Flight Historic Triangle Virginia’s worthy effort to ensure that every veteran of the Second World War is honored properly with a trip to the National World War Two Memorial on the National Mall in Washington, D.C.  For the next trip on April 28th, 2012 as with each of the last six trips, First District will lead the effort to ensure the bus trip departs in a safe, efficient and timely manner as well as ensure that a grateful nation remembers its heroes as we line the streets and give a grand sendoff for them as the buses pull out.

At 0530 hours, our District Commander, Thomas Randall, will be holding a Safety Briefing at the Historic Triangle Community Services Center at 312 Waller Mill Road, Williamsburg, VA for all volunteers that serve as road guards, ushers and escorts for the veterans.  These volunteers are a coalition of Veterans Service Organizations, military units, and patriotic citizens that Commander Randall has coordinated.  All are proud to help those who sacrificed so much during World War Two.  These volunteers have included American Legion Post 39, DAV Chapters 2, 4 and 13, VFW Posts 176, 824, 960, 1503, 1776, 3219, 4639, 5500, 6002, 8252, 9808, the VFW Riders, the Military Order of the Purple Heart, the Virginia Peninsula Chapter of the MOAA, the Navy League and the Sons and Daughters of the American Revolution. Military service personnel from Joint Base Langley-FT Eustis, NWS Yorktown, the USCG Training Center and USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 71) always show up in large numbers and this departure will see them in force again without a doubt.
