  • Shankland Legislator of the YearMADISON, WI  — Stevens Point Democratic State Representative Katrina Shankland has been recognized as a Legislator of the Year by both the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Wisconsin State Fire Chief’s Association. Shankland says that she always strives to include area veterans in choices she makes in Madison. “I have legislation that I’m trying to pass right now that would help disabled veterans get greater access to mentored hunting,” said Shankland. “As well as just keeping in contact with members of the Plover VFW, for example, hearing from them on issues that are important to them and working toward that.” Shankland shares the honor from the Fire Chief’s Association with Republican Representative Amy Loudenbeck from Clinton. Together, they’ve worked on bills to give EMTs greater power to address medical problems and help patients get the right level of care. “I do think it’s important to reach across the isle to advance health care access, especially for people in rural areas and people who have less access to emergency and non-emergency care alike. I thought it was a really important … Continue reading

  • Newsletter – July, 2017JULY -2017- NEWSLETTER Greetings Members and Friends of Greendale VFW Post 10519, I hope everyone is enjoying the summer months so far. The last newsletter was sent out in May. We do not normally do a June newsletter. In May we had the Installation of Officers dinner instead of a regular Post and Auxiliary meeting so there usually isn’t a lot of new things to report. But that does mean that as a Post we have not been busy. I am happy to report that I  not aware there of any members with any new health issues. But we have many who are dealing with current issues as well as some long time health issues. I  also have no new members to report. Please keep recruiting   As mentioned above on May 22nd we had our installation of Officers ceremony and dinner. Approximately 65 people attended. Past Sate Commander Phil Jasinski did the installation ceremony for the Post and Susan Koehler did the officiating for the Auxiliary. The food was prepared  by Daniel’s Catering and the social time was rewarding. … Continue reading

  • Burns Post’s Plane Lands at a New FieldIt’s not every day you see a military jet rolling down Grand Avenue, but that was the sight on the evening of June 13 in Wausau. That’s when the mounted aircraft which was once on display at Wausau’s VFW Burns Post 388 on River Drive was moved to Alexander Airport Park.  The move was a joint effort between the Burns Post, City of Wausau, U.S. Air Force, and the Air National Guard from Dane County’s Truax Field. The Air National Guard used the move as a training exercise in the removal, recovery, and movement of downed aircraft.                                           Members of the 115th Fighter Wing Crash, Disaster or Disabled Aircraft Recovery Team then returned to the VFW Clubhouse as the Post and Auxiliary finished their monthly meetings for socializing and comradery.
