Wisconsin’s Seventh District’s largest and oldest post has installed its first grandmother commander to lead it for 2013-14.
Mary Jo Literski is also the first Afghanistan veteran and the first Army officer to take command of the Burns Post. Major Literski serves with the Neenah detachment of the 452nd Combat Support Hospital unit of the Army Reserve.
Literski has served as Post Voice of Democracy chairperson, Post Service Officer and has been a member of the Honor Guard of Post #388 since 2005. She is a lifetime citizen of the Wausau area, currently living in Rib Mountain and working at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.
Literski says, “I hope to learn from the leaders who have preceded me. It would be wonderful to see more women and current veterans join our veterans community organization. The opportunities to help the community, help veterans and their families and to share in a social community are endless.
