Vets for Vets is proud to announce Dr. Lorry Fenner as our next guest speaker! The event will be held Thursday April 18th in the Masley Media Room, with in the Red Gym on the UW-Madison Campus, at 7 pm.

Dr. Lorry Fenner, a retired Air Force Colonel who now works for the National Defense University in Washington DC, will be coming to Madison on the 18th of April to give her case supporting the inclusion of women in the combat arms of the military. The purpose of her lecture will be to spark thoughtful, academic discussion on the topic and allow listeners to come to their own conclusions on the matter. 

Bio: 

Lorry M. Fenner, Ph.D.

Retired as a colonel from the U.S. Air Force after 26 years as an intelligence officer and space operations officer, as well as in academic positions, Dr. Fenner held a variety of command and staff jobs worldwide. In addition to assignments as a satellite systems flight commander, signals intelligence squadron commander, deputy group commander, and vice wing commander, she served on Major Command staffs, the Air Staff, the Joint Staff (J-5, Strategy Division), and the Secretary of Defense’s staff. Dr. Fenner also served on the staff of the Scowcroft Commission (NSPD-5, Comprehensive Review of Intelligence, 2001) and the 9-11 Commission (National Commission on Terrorist Attacks Upon the United States, 2003-2004) and as a Fellow at the Supreme Court of the United States (2002-2003). 

Dr. Fenner taught history at the U.S. Air Force Academy, where she served at various times as the Director of Cadet Development, the Director of World History and Area Studies, and the Director of Military History. She also taught strategic studies, and the space and information operations and the Southeastern Europe electives at the National War College. More recently she co-taught the elective on Congress and national Security at NWC.

Along with numerous awards and fellowships, Lorry Fenner earned a Ph.D. in History from the University of Michigan, an M.S. in National Security Strategy from the National War College at NDU, an M.A. in Central European History from the University of Michigan, and a B.A. in Secondary Education from Arizona State University.
