Ladies Newsletter February, 2014

Dear Sisters, 2014, and what a start with extremely cold and snowy weather. Thanks to those that battled the cold to attend our January meeting. Congrats to Virginia Rocke-Orlowski celebrating 50 years in the VFW Auxiliary. What a blessing to have you at 10519. Great to see Julie Pipke at our last meeting, and correspondence from Anne and Annette Kuligowski , pleased to know you are both doing well. I will be attending C of A (Council of Administration) meeting February 15th at the Mid-Winter conference, being held at Olympia Resort in Oconomowoc. The two new contests this year at Mid-Winter are the Bra Decorating (cancer aid and research ) and special Buddy Poppy ” Design a Mardi Gras Mask “. Our national president is from Louisiana, so a Mardi Gras mask is very appropriate. Prizes will be awarded for each contest. A very special thank you goes out to Joan Winkleski for taking these projects on allowing us to participate in both contests. I think we have a very good chance of being a winner. Come to our next … Continue reading

Newsletter Post 10519 February, 2014

FEBRUARY-2014 NEWSLETTER Greetings Post Members, and Friends of Greendale VFW Post 10519, This is our first Newsletter of the year. We do not send one out in January since there is very little VFW news during the holiday season. And we save on the expense of a mailing with very little new information. I hope everyone’s new year is off to a good start in spite of the harsh winter so far. Since our last meeting in November the Post participated in the December 7th Pearl Harbor Ceremony. Six Post members participated in the Wreaths Across America ceremony at Wood’s National Cemetery (see VFW Newspaper for picture and article). The Post Christmas Party was held on December 14th, close to 75 Post members and guests attended. In late December the Post ended the 2014 Calendar Raffle sales. At the November meeting we welcomed new member Zach Mayo a marine with two tours in Afghanistan. Welcome Zach. Also in January the Post had an opportunity to do some fund raising. Senior Vice Bill Pekrul’s son is the owner of M W … Continue reading

I would like to announce and welcome our newest member Donald Almquist. Don has been a member of the VFW. He transferred to our Post last month. Welcome Don. The main point of this Newsletter is FUND RAISING. I am sure everyone understands that the VFW, at the Post level, cannot exist without funds and we certainly could not help out needy Veterans and Veteran causes without money. How much we help Veterans depends on how much we raise. Our fund raising consists of our community Poppy distribution and our Poppy and bracelet distribution at assigned Brewer’s games. This year our fund raising events fall within a one month period. Our community Poppy distribution is on Friday May 9th and Saturday May 10th. The Brewers games are May 30th, 31st and June 1st. The May 9th and 10th is the weekend when many other Veterans organization in the area … Continue reading
