  GREENDALE VFW POST 10519 DECEMBER- 2018- NEWSLETTER Greetings Members and Friends of Greendale VFW Post 10519, This will be the last Post newsletter for 2018, the years seem to fly by. The Post’s Christmas Party will be on Saturday, December 15th. Social hour is 5:30, a catered dinner to follow at 6:30. Most have signed up by now but if you have not the cutoff date was set at December 6th. If you would still like to attend please let us know as soon as possible. The annual Christmas party is well attended every year, you won’t find a nicer time for $20.00 per person. I am happy to report no new hospitalizations at this time. Get well wishes go out to all who are dealing with health issues. I also have no new members or transfers to report at this time but I would like to thank all those who helped the Post attain our 100% membership goal for the 2018-2019 VFW year. Auxiliary Newsletter – December, 2018

  Greetings Brothers and Sisters of VFWA 10519,   December has arrived bringing unseasonably cold temperatures. Hope all of our members are well and staying warm.   December 15th is the date for the VFW Christmas Party. Deadline for reservations is December 6th. Still time to send in your reservation. Detailed information is enclosed with this mailing. As in past years Auxiliary members provided an hors d’oeuvres, dessert or BOTH to be enjoyed by all in attendance. If unable to attend, Commander John and I wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy Healthy New Year!   Once again the Post and Auxiliary will participate in Wreaths Across America. This will take place also on the 15th of December. We will leave the post at 10:15 for the National Cemetery on the VA Grounds (Zablocki) for an 11:00 program and placing of the wreaths. This is a National Program.   Great attendance at the November meeting, members, family and friends of the VOD and Patriots Pen winners. GREENDALE VFW POST 10519 NOVEMBER- 2018- NEWSLETTER Greetings Members and Friends of Greendale VFW Post 10519, Welcome to November, the transition month from fall to winter. I have no new hospitalizations to report at this time. On behalf of the all the Post members I would like to once again offer our condolences to Bob and Karen Karwowski for the recent loss of their son. Get well wishes go out to all who are dealing with health issues. I would like welcome new transfer member TJ Oman to the Post. TJ is a Greendale resident and transfers in from the Wauwatosa Post. Welcome TJ. Post membership has done well over the last few months. The Post has been recognized by both Department of Wisconsin and VFW National for having achieved 100% membership for the 2018-2019 VFW year. We usually obtain 100% but this is the earliest we reached our goal in my time here. We would also welcome back Tom Schultz who had left for Oregon on a short business venture.   NOVEMBER-2018- NEWSLETTER Greetings Brothers and Sisters of VFWA 10519,   The colors have disappeared and the leaves are off the trees. You know what comes next! If only our winter months went as fast Spring, Summer and Fall. November is an important month, time set aside to honor our Veterans. On Friday, November 2nd, a Veterans program was held at the Greendale Library. VFW and American legion member Bob Kennedy, and American Legion member Leo Taylor, were honored and presented with a Quilt of Honor. It was a wonderful evening honoring all our Veterans.   Saturday, November 3rd, a short Veterans Day Parade stepped off from the municipal parking lot in Greendale to the future site of the Greendale Veterans Memorial. The downtown Milwaukee Veterans Day Parade will take place on Saturday, November 10th, 11:00AM. GREENDALE VFW POST 10519 OCTOBER- 2018- NEWSLETTER Greetings Members and Friends of Greendale VFW Post 10519, Welcome to October, the months seem fly by except for the winter months when time slows down. I have no new hospitalizations to report at this time. On behalf of the all the Post members I would like to once again offer our condolences to the Frank Jennik Family, Frank lost his wife during the month of September. Our prayers and thoughts are with Frank and his Family. Get well wishes go out to all who are dealing with health issues. On a happy note I would like welcome three new members to the Post. Welcome to Anthony Joachimczyk, a Korean War Army Veteran. Anthony took out a life membership. We would also welcome Darrel Klotz, a two tour Air Force Vietnam Veteran. GREENDALE VFW POST 10519 SEPTEMBER- 2018- NEWSLETTER Greetings Members and Friends of Greendale VFW Post 10519, Welcome to September, meteorological summer has ended and the fall season has started and we all know what follows that. I have no new hospitalizations to report. Get well wishes go out to all who are dealing with health issues. On a sad note we had to say goodbye to Dan Raush, a long time Post member who passed away in July. As for membership we have done well as a Post. I would like to welcome Curt Crowdis a Greenfield resident and Navy Veteran and Steven Sheffieck, also a Greenfield resident and an Army veteran. Both attended our last meeting and were voted in. Welcome to the Post. I also have two other applications, one from the VFW Regional Office and one who was recruited at the St Marten’s fair this past weekend. Greetings Brothers and Sisters of VFWA 10519,   Welcome to September and new annual member Linda Conatty. She joins our auxiliary under the eligibility of her husband Army Veteran “Sarge” (AKA Dan). Entered Air Force August 1970, after completion of Basic Training at Lackland AFB, I attended the Communications Center Specialist course at Sheperd AFB Tx. My first assignment was Bien Hoa AB, Vietnam. Worked in the Base communications center, typing messages on an ASR 28 teletype machine. Left Vietnam in Nov 1971 and was assigned to Scott AFB, Illinois from Jan 72 to Jun 1974. After re-enlisting was sent to Izmir Turkey, Hq 6 Allied Tactical Air Force.   Worked in the Mobile Communications squadron and Disko Hit Relay staton.   I cross trained into Tech Control and after Tech School at Keesler AFB, Ms,   was assigned to North Communications Area HQ, Griffiss AFB NY.   In March 1978 I completed Air Force Recruiting School and was sent to Milwaukee, Wi. My first office was on 71st and Capitol Dr.   Spent the next 17 years in recruiting, working in Operations, training, and supervision. Retired as the Squadron Superintendent for the 347th Recruiting Squadron, which covered portions of Wisconsin and Illinois. GREENDALE VFW POST 10519 JULY- 2018- NEWSLETTER Greetings Members and Friends of Greendale VFW Post 10519, Welcome to July, the middle of summer is near. If winter went as fast as summer we wouldn’t have anything to complain about. I have no new hospitalizations to report. Get well wishes go out to all who are dealing with health issues. As for membership I would like to welcome new member Ernie Bauer. Ernie is an Army- Viet Nam vet, who returns to the VFW after a long absence. Welcome back Ernie. On May 11th and 12th we held our Community Poppy Drive. We had seven community businesses that had given us permission to solicit Poppy donations on those dates. We had reasonable success given the cold and rainy 11th of May. Lack of participants and no-shows continue to be a problem. Many of our older volunteers just can’t give us the hours they once did and no one is stepping up to replace those volunteers and hours.
