Entered Air Force August 1970, after completion of Basic Training at Lackland AFB, I attended the Communications Center Specialist course at Sheperd AFB Tx. My first assignment was Bien Hoa AB, Vietnam. Worked in the Base communications center, typing messages on an ASR 28 teletype machine. Left Vietnam in Nov 1971 and was assigned to Scott AFB, Illinois from Jan 72 to Jun 1974. After re-enlisting was sent to Izmir Turkey, Hq 6 Allied Tactical Air Force.   Worked in the Mobile Communications squadron and Disko Hit Relay staton.   I cross trained into Tech Control and after Tech School at Keesler AFB, Ms,   was assigned to North Communications Area HQ, Griffiss AFB NY.   In March 1978 I completed Air Force Recruiting School and was sent to Milwaukee, Wi. My first office was on 71st and Capitol Dr.   Spent the next 17 years in recruiting, working in Operations, training, and supervision. Retired as the Squadron Superintendent for the 347th Recruiting Squadron, which covered portions of Wisconsin and Illinois. GREENDALE VFW POST 10519 JULY- 2018- NEWSLETTER Greetings Members and Friends of Greendale VFW Post 10519, Welcome to July, the middle of summer is near. If winter went as fast as summer we wouldn’t have anything to complain about. I have no new hospitalizations to report. Get well wishes go out to all who are dealing with health issues. As for membership I would like to welcome new member Ernie Bauer. Ernie is an Army- Viet Nam vet, who returns to the VFW after a long absence. Welcome back Ernie. On May 11th and 12th we held our Community Poppy Drive. We had seven community businesses that had given us permission to solicit Poppy donations on those dates. We had reasonable success given the cold and rainy 11th of May. Lack of participants and no-shows continue to be a problem. Many of our older volunteers just can’t give us the hours they once did and no one is stepping up to replace those volunteers and hours. Greetings Brothers and Sisters of VFWA 10519; The 2018-2019 Auxiliary year starts off with a BANG! We welcome new life member Ellen Crass, she joins us under the eligibility of her husband Dan the post adjunct. Welcome Ellen. Beginning of a new auxiliary year means time to renew annual membership. Remember, early bird catches the worm. Watch for treasurer Julie’s renewal notice coming to your mailbox soon.  Every member is an important part of this auxiliary. Department Convention is behind us. Carla Wright (Bellis) and I represented 10519. It was an honor to accept awards on behalf of our Auxiliary.  All your hard work this past year was recognized by department. We received awards for Voice of Democracy, Continuing Education, Young American Patriotic Art, Patriots Pen, VFW News, Emergency and Disaster Relief, Veterans and Military Support, Legislative, Healthy Veterans of Foreign Wars Award. Now we start over for the 2018-2019 auxiliary year. Your input at our monthly meetings is important  for us to continue as a successful auxiliary. GREENDALE VFW POST 10519 MAY- 2018- NEWSLETTER Greetings Members and Friends of Greendale VFW Post 10519, Welcome to May I think spring time has finally reached Wisconsin. I have no hospitalizations to report. Get well wishes go out to all who are dealing with health issues. As for membership I would like to welcome new member William Howe, a Viet Nam Army Vet, welcome to the Post. I would also like acknowledge three members who have recently upgraded their membership to LIFE MEMBERSHIP, they are Zach Mayo, John Marsh and Eric Waldhart and , another member, Andrew Gleason is in the process of going to PAID for LIFE MEMBERSHIP thanks to all for your commitment to the VFW. The Greendale Veteran’s memorial project is reaching its final stage and building should start soon. Although the money goal has been reached to start the construction, donations are still needed for maintenance, insurance and other expenses. It warms my heart monthly to see our meeting room full, that’s what makes us a strong auxiliary. Together we can accomplish much for our Veterans and Families. This newsletter may seem a bit repetitious but all important for the Merry Month of May. Nominations and elections were held at our April meeting. Officers for the 2018-2019 auxiliary year are as follows: PRESIDENT-Nancy Ustruck, SR. April 2018 e-News   APRIL 2018 WVM James Megellas Gallery at King Opens With an expansive remodel complete, the Wisconsin Veterans Museum celebrated the grand re-opening of the James Megellas Gallery on April 20. The interactive museum (take virtual tour here), which covers the rich history of military members from Wisconsin, is housed at the Wisconsin Veterans Home at King in its Marden Center. The museum includes stories and artifacts from Veterans who served in United States-involved conflicts from the Civil War until today. A ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the opening of the museum at King brought dozens of members from the community and members at the home…. Volunteering for Veterans April is National Volunteer Month, a time for us to recognize the incredible work volunteers perform across the nation. Across the WDVA’s three Veterans homes, almost 600 volunteers combined to put in more than 43,000 hours within the last year! Newsletter – April. 2018

GREENDALE VFW POST 10519 APRIL- 2018- NEWSLETTER Greetings Members and Friends of Greendale VFW Post 10519, Welcome to April and spring time in Wisconsin. The calendar says April but the thermometer is showing February. I have no hospitalizations to report. Get well wishes go out to all who are dealing with health issues. As for membership I don’t have any new members or transfers to report but we do have a possible new member in process and two members have up graded their membership status to LIFE MEMBERSHIP. Thanks to all. On a sad note the Post has lost a good friend in Tony Chandek who passed away this past week. Tony was a Veteran but not eligible for the VFW. Tony volunteered a lot of his time for Poppy distributions and supported the Post in many other ways. Over the last few years his son has donated a case of fine liquors and wine for gifts at our Post Christmas party. Rest in peace Tony. On a happy note there has been a change in Greendale Veteran’s memorial project. … Continue reading
