Newsletter – December, 2018

POST 10519

Greetings Members and Friends of Greendale VFW Post 10519,

This will be the last Post newsletter for 2018, the years seem to fly by. The Post’s Christmas Party will be on Saturday, December 15th. Social hour is 5:30, a catered dinner to follow at 6:30. Most have signed up by now but if you have not the cutoff date was set at December 6th. If you would still like to attend please let us know as soon as possible. The annual Christmas party is well attended every year, you won’t find a nicer time for $20.00 per person.

I am happy to report no new hospitalizations at this time. Get well wishes go out to all who are dealing with health issues. I also have no new members or transfers to report at this time but I would like to thank all those who helped the Post attain our 100% membership goal for the 2018-2019 VFW year.

Also coming up on December 15th is the WREATHS ACCROSS AMERICA ceremony at the VA National Cemetery. It is a program put on by the Cadets of the Air Force JR ROTC. After a short remembrance program people in attendance are invited to lay a wreath on a headstone of a Veteran buried at the Cemetery. Anyone wishing to attend, we will meet at the Post Saturday December 15th and leave for the Cemetery at 10:15 for the 11 am program. Dress for the weather.

The Post Honor Guard marched in the Veteran’s Day parade in downtown Milwaukee on November 10th. Marchers were Theresa McQuire, Zach Mayo, Ken Kieck, Tim Bellis, John Ustruck with cadence and direction provided by Dan “SARGE” Conatty. Riders were Don Furdek, Bill Pekrul and Bob Karwowski. We must have looked good we got several seconds on Channel 58 news.

At our November regular Post meeting on November 26th we had our annual Patriots Pen and Voice of Democracy presentations and awards. It was well attended, besides the students, many parents and family members were present showing their support to those patriotic students. Congratulations to the winners and many thanks to past Auxiliary President Amanda Patterson. Mrs. Patterson Chairs the Patriots Pen and Voice of Democracy program every year and does an excellent job.

Dan Crass is putting together a program for coming 2019 year that will address in helping out Post members in need. It will be aimed at getting information to members unable to attend meetings and help with veterans benefits and also help with day to day issues. The program is not complete but look for more information in 2019 as it comes together.

Also for 2019 we are looking to get the Post more involved in an event called the VIPER RIDE. It is an event centered around blind, visually impaired and physically disabled veterans. Post member TJ Oman is the founder of the program. More to come on this event as it unfolds. Check out the web site at
