Newsletter May,2016

Greetings Members and Friends of Greendale VFW Post 10519,

Greetings to all, I am sure everyone is happy that winter is finally behind us. I don’t have any new members to report this month. I have not received any notification of any one  sick or hurt. Bob Kennedy continues to recuperate at home. Richard Derse will be undergoing hip replacement surgery later this month, we wish him well.

At the March meeting we had nominations of Officers for the 2016-2017 VFW year, at the April meeting we had final nominations. All the positions had one nominee and all were approved by vote. Your new Officers are unchanged from last year except for the Trustee position. They are:  Commander (John Ustruck), Quartermaster (Ken Kieck), Senior Vice Commander (Theresa McQuire), Junior Vice Commander ( Zach Mayo), Chaplin (Roger Volland),  and a new three year Trustee ( Roland Young). The Post would like to thank outgoing Trustee Bob Kennedy for many many years of diligent service as a Trustee.  All other members who had an appointed position agreed to stay on for another year. Thanks to all who have stepped up or continued in a position.

The Installation of Officers Ceremony and dinner is set for the fourth Monday of May, May 23rd. It will be a copy of last year’s event. Cocktails at 5:30, dinner at 6:30 followed by the installation Ceremony. Past State Commander Phil Jasinski will do the installation honors for the Post. The cost is $15.00 per person which includes the bar and a catered buffet from Daniel’s Catering. Cut off day to sign up is May 15th.

The other BIG event for May is our Community Poppy campaign. The dates are May 6th and May 7th. At the April meeting we had sign up papers for our upcoming Community Poppy Drive, most of the time slots are filled, but there are some holes. If you can give some time contact Roger Volland at 414-421-8030 and he will work you in. If you are unable to work outside distributing Poppies we have need for money counters, again contact Roger if you can help with this inside sit down job. Please plan on giving some time to this event. ALL money raised goes  directly to helping Veterans and Veteran causes.

On Saturday April 23rd the Fisher House had  their official RIBBON CUTTING event at the VA grounds. Post members, Don Furdek, Bob Karwowski, Dan Connatty, John Ustruck and Auxiliary member Shirley Meyer attended. Post member  Dan Buttery has been instrumental in the  fund raising and planning of the Fisher House. Dan spoke at the Ribbon Cutting. Dan and wife Pattie have been involved from the beginning and have attended countless fund raisers, meetings and speeches. Their hard work has been fruitful.  Congratulations and thanks for all you both have done

There will be a BRAT FRY/CORN ROAST on May 14th at the Post. See the attached flyer. It is a joint Legion/VFW event. More help is needed, we as the VFW must make our presence known. Plan on attending and encourage your friends and neighbors to support it and help out if you can.

The Post’s Honor Guard will be leading the Memorial Day parade in downtown Greendale on May 30th. The parade starts at 9:00 am, Honor Guard participants meet at the Post at 8:15 or the staging area by 8:30.
