POST 10519

NOVEMBER- 2018- NEWSLETTER

Greetings Members and Friends of Greendale VFW Post 10519,

Welcome to November, the transition month from fall to winter. I have no new hospitalizations to report at this time. On behalf of the all the Post members I would like to once again offer our condolences to Bob and Karen Karwowski for the recent loss of their son. Get well wishes go out to all who are dealing with health issues.

I would like welcome new transfer member TJ Oman to the Post. TJ is a Greendale resident and transfers in from the Wauwatosa Post. Welcome TJ. Post membership has done well over the last few months. The Post has been recognized by both Department of Wisconsin and VFW National for having achieved 100% membership for the 2018-2019 VFW year. We usually obtain 100% but this is the earliest we reached our goal in my time here. We would also welcome back Tom Schultz who had left for Oregon on a short business venture.

On October 11th Auxiliary President Nancy, Don Furdek, Tim Baranczyk and myself attended a Flag raising and check presentation event at the Post Acute Medical Hospital located in Greenfield at 5017 S. 110th Street. The hospital presented a check to the VA designated for Homeless Veterans. It was a nice program and included a lunch.

This past Friday, November 2nd, many Post members attended a Quilts of honor presentation and Veterans recognition program put on by the Greendale Library. Post member Bob Kennedy and legion member Leo Taylor received Quilts of Honor. The Quilts are presented by the QUILTS OF HONOR GUILD located Oshkosh. The next day, Saturday the 3rd, the Post Honor Guard presented the Colors at the 3rd annual Greendale Veterans Day parade. The parade consisted of the VFW Honor Guard, American Legion Firing Squad, Boy Scouts and several Military vehicles. It was a short parade down Broad street to the Memorial site. Next year we will have an actual memorial to march to. The weather was reasonable but the spectator attendance was very poor.

On November 10th, this coming Saturday, the 55th Annual Veterans Day of Honor Parade will take place in down town Milwaukee. The Post Honor Guard will be participating in the event. Consider attending and showing your support for all Veterans. The parade starts at 11 am. check the Honor our Military web site for the parade route and other information.

The Post put in a request to the Milwaukee Brewers organization to distribute Poppies during Brewers home games next year. The post was assigned two dates for the upcoming season, April 15 and September 6th. The September date is a weekend date with the Cubs, a great potential. More on this as we get closer to those dates.

Our November regular Post meeting, on November 26th will be our annual Patriots Pen and Voice of Democracy presentations and awards. Please plan on coming and showing your support to these patriotic students and their parents. This is an excellent program administered by past Auxiliary President Amanda Patterson. Hearing the winning essays read by the students is a very moving experience. I hope you can join us and support these patriotic students and their families.

December 15 will be the Post’s Christmas Party. Cocktails at 5:30 pm, dinner at 6:30, $20.00 per person, catering by Daniels Catering. You must be signed up by December 6th. See the attached sign up form for mailing instructions or you can sign up at the November meeting.

2019 Raffle Calendars are still available. We will have them until early December and are available at the Post meeting for $20.00. If you would like one but can’t make the meeting call me and we will make arrangements to get your calendars.
