POST 10519

Greetings Members and Friends of Greendale VFW Post 10519,

Another month has flown by, they go by fast. I am happy to report that I have not been notified of any Post member hospitalized. However we do have many members dealing with health issues at home, keep them in thoughts and prayers.

I have no new members or transfer members to report this month. I ask that you continue to keep recruitment in mind. A strong membership nationwide is what gives the VFW the clout needed to keep our benefits funded. The numbers are important.

The Milwaukee brewers organization has been contacted to request dates for next year’s Poppy distribution. They have responded that we will get dates for next year but as of this printing we don’t know which games. I will update you as soon as I get the information.

The post Honor Guard and Auxiliary will be marching in the Veteran’s Day parade in downtown Milwaukee on November 4th. It is a great parade, think about attending to honor our military and show support for the Post. It is my understanding that Greendale will once again be having a Veteran’s Day event. I don’t have any details and nothing is on the Greendale Village web site. Hopefully I will have information for the November newsletter.

Congratulations to Post member Harold Kuehnel. Harold is a Korean war veteran and each year he attends the national reunion of the Army’s 25th Infantry Division. This year he has been selected to represent the Korean War Veterans of the 25th Division during their flag ceremony. A well deserved honor.

On November 27th at our monthly Post and Auxiliary meeting we will have the Patriots Pen and Voice of Democracy presentations. This is a an excellent program administered by past Auxiliary President Amanda Patterson. Hearing the winning essays read by the students is a very moving experience. I hope you can join us and support these patriotic students and their families.

At our last Post meeting both the Post and Auxiliary had their yearly inspection. The 4th District sends inspectors to review our books and financial statements. The checklist of things they check is long. They check the programs we support, by-laws, required reporting and they observe how Post meetings are run to insure that the proper rituals are performed. As usual both the Post and Auxiliary did well. Thanks to all the Officers and members of the Post for fulfilling their obligations and making this a very successful Post.

Veterans having difficulty keeping air conditioning or heat due to financial problems, call Heat for Heroes, 1-800-891-9276 for possible help.  This is a Keep Wisconsin Warm/Cool Initiative

On November 3rd there will be the annual MILITARY AND VETERANS BALL. It is held at the Milwaukee Hilton. If interested there is more information available by calling 414-229-7211 or contacting Post Jr. Vice commander Zach Mayo will be attending the Ball and has invited Post member and World War II D-Day veteran to be an honored guest at the Ball. An honor well deserved for Bill. Thanks Zach.

2018 Raffle Calendars are now available. We will have them until early December and are available at the Post meeting for $20.00. If you would like one but can’t make the meeting call me and we will make arrangements to get your calendars..

If you know of any Post member that is ill or in need of any type of support or other assistance please let me know. Let us know if you have an address change or if you no longer want a newsletter mailed but would prefer to get it electronically.
