OCTOBER -2016- NEWSLETTER
Greetings Members and Friends of Greendale VFW Post 10519,
Welcome to Autumn. Summer is behind us, in the next few months we will transition into winter. Not a good thought for most of us. Sick call finds Ralph Steffen back at the VA. Roger Volland, Don Furdek and Bob Kennedy continue to rehab from their medical conditions. We offer get well wishes to all who are dealing with health concerns.
We welcome new member Kenneth Stephany, Ken is a Navy Veteran who’s eligibility is by way of his Viet Nam service. We also welcome Tim Bellis, Tim is a transfer member from the VFW Fidler Post #9469. Tim is not a stranger to the Post, he is a 416 Legion member, Firing Squad member and Greendale resident. Welcome to you both.
In last month newsletter I neglected to mention a couple of our members who have donated to the Post. Both wish to be anonymous but their generosity should not go unmentioned. One members contributes a sizable amount every year. This year he doubled it. Per his request that money went to the Zablocki VA Hospital to be used by needy Veterans. The second member made his anonymous donation to our Poppy fund. That fund is used only for Veterans. Thanks to both of you and sorry for the delay in recognizing you.
On September 24th the Philippine Children’s choir put on a concert at the Greendale High School. After the event audience and cast members came back to the Post for food and refreshments. Several hundred came to eat. There was Pilipino food put on by their choir committee. American food of hamburgers, hot dogs and corn was also available. This fund raiser was put on to benefit the Greendale Veterans Memorial, the Philippine Center and its free clinic and the PCCF Munting Children’s Choir.
The “HONOR OUR MILITARY’ group had a kickoff event for the upcoming Veterans Day Parade on November 5th. The event was held on September 24th and September 25th, at their new home at 300 East College at the South end of Mitchell Field. Six Post members and the Auxiliary president attended on Sunday and presented a check to the Parade organizers.
On the same subject of Veterans Day Parade. There is a group of Greendale residents, officials, City Librarian, the American Legion, the American Legion Firing Squad and the VFW that are deep in the planning stages for a Veterans Day event for November 11th and 12th. On Friday November 11th there will be a Veterans recognition program at the library with refreshments, displays and a short program. On Saturday November 12th there will be a short parade from the downtown area to the Memorial site. The parade will be lead by the VFW Honor Guard and the American Legion Firing Squad. At the site there will be Veterans Day Program consisting of Veteran speakers. The event is to honor Veterans on this day as well as draw attention to the Memorial. All the details are not finalized but we expect it will happen and I will get more information to you as it develops.
Along with this mailing and as an attachment you will find a brick order for Greendale Veterans Memorial. Please consider a donation with brick purchase to honor a Veteran. For more information visit greendaleveteransmememorial@org.
