Greetings Members and Friends of Greendale VFW Post 10519,
Welcome to October, the months seem fly by except for the winter months when time slows down. I have no new hospitalizations to report at this time. On behalf of the all the Post members I would like to once again offer our condolences to the Frank Jennik Family, Frank lost his wife during the month of September. Our prayers and thoughts are with Frank and his Family. Get well wishes go out to all who are dealing with health issues.
On a happy note I would like welcome three new members to the Post. Welcome to Anthony Joachimczyk, a Korean War Army Veteran. Anthony took out a life membership. We would also welcome Darrel Klotz, a two tour Air Force Vietnam Veteran. Darrel also took out a life membership. Our third new member is John Janiszewski an Army Veteran whose eligibility includes the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary, Afghanistan Ribbon, Hostile Fire/imminent Danger pay in Kabul in 2012 and many other awards and recognitions. Welcome to all, we are happy to have you in the VFW and especially the Greendale 10519 Post. Membership is ongoing, talk us up and keep pushing to add members, it is vital to the future of the VFW.
The Greendale Veteran’s memorial project is reaching its final stages. On September 12, 2018 representatives of the Greendale Veterans Memorial Group met at the Village Hall to present a check in the amount of $270,000.00 to the Village of Greendale for the next phase in building a Veterans memorial in the Village. The Memorial Group consists of the Greendale VFW Post 10519, the American Legion Post 416, patriotic Greendale citizens and other Village leaders. As I get information I will keep you informed on the progress of the project. Next month I would like to give you a ground breaking date and more building information.
On Saturday September 22nd, Honor Our Military, those who are responsible for the Veterans Day Parade in downtown Milwaukee in November have scheduled a parade kickoff party. This event was to be at the Mitchell Field office. That event was postponed to October 6th and 7th. Anyone wishing to attend should meet at the Post on Saturday, October 6th, we will leave at noon and car pool down to the location.
Thanks to Bob Birmingham and Bob Karwowski for going above and beyond in soliciting donations through poppy distribution. Bob Birmingham at Broad Street Coffee Co in Greendale (owned by his son, Jim) and Bob Karwowski at House of Harley, during the 115th Anniversary Rally. Once the Brewer season is over, including the playoffs, we can submit a request to the Brewer’s organization for dates for next year’s Poppy distributions. It’s been awhile since we had good premium games but we’ll make the best of what they give us.
There will be a Veteran’s Day program and parade in Greendale again this year. The details are not available as of this writing but I will pass them on when I get them.
Our November regular Post meeting, on November 26th will be our annual Patriots Pen and Voice of Democracy presentations and awards. Please plan on coming and showing your support to these patriotic students and their parents. This is an excellent program administered by past Auxiliary President Amanda Patterson. Hearing the winning essays read by the students is a very moving experience. I hope you can join us and support these patriotic students and their families.
2019 Raffle Calendars are now available. We will have them until early December and are available at the Post meeting for $20.00. If you would like one but can’t make the meeting call me and we will make arrangements to get your calendars.
