AUGUST 2015 NEWSLETTER
Greetings Members and Friends of Greendale VFW Post 10519,
Sad news to begin the August newsletter. Post member Bill Poulter passed away recently. Many of you remember Bill from his highly decorated military Jeep. He has joined us in many parades as well as driving Gold Star Mothers in the downtown Veterans Day parade every year.
I would like to offer get well wishes to Bob Kennedy who is now at home recovering from surgery. And we continue to offer best wishes to Harold Kuehnel and Ralph Steffan as they continue their healing process.
I would like to offer a welcome to our newest transfer member Paul A. Boucher. Paul lives in Franklin. Welcome aboard.
Our Post Color Guard has been busy this summer. They led the Greendale 4th of July parade and the Village Day Parade on August 9th. All the participants did a fine job as usual. Our next parade march will be the downtown Veterans Day Parade in November.
At our July meeting we met jointly with the Auxiliary and had a presentation from Eagle Scout Dean Busalacchi regarding his Eagle Scout Project. His Eagle Scout project is making handicap accessible picnic tables and disbursing them in the Greendale area. Both the Post and Auxiliary donated to Dean’s project. We hope to get a table for the Post grounds.
Also at the July meeting there was a presentation from Jim Fridl regarding CASHBACKHEAVEN.COM, Jim is a veteran and friend of the Post. Jim has helped us set up a fund raising web site where people can buy things on line from over 2,500 sites (including the top names stores) and percentage of that purchase comes back to the Post. The September Newsletter will have more information regarding the plan and how to access it.
At our July meeting Senior Vice Theresa McQuire and Post Surgeon offered blood pressure checks. Theresa is a medically trained professional. If you would like your numbers checked come to our August meeting.
We may have some fund raising opportunities in September or October, nothing definite at this time. We are working on another car show at Gus’ Mexican Cantina in Franklin and we are always looking for other fund raising opportunities.
We have two Miller Park Brewers games for our Poppy distributions, October 2nd and the 4th against the Chicago Cubs, a week-end. The Brewers are not playing well but the Cubs are. The Cubs fans have been supporting their team with good attendance. We have found the Cubs fans to be very generous in donating to our cause. If the weather is reasonable we should to very well. I will have more on this as we get closer.
If you know of any Post member that is ill or in need of any type of support please let me know. Let us know if you have an address change or if you no longer want a newsletter mailing or would prefer to get it electronically.
