Greetings Post Members, and Friends of Greendale VFW Post 10519,
This is our first Newsletter of the year. We do not send one out in January since there is very little VFW news during the holiday season. And we save on the expense of a mailing with very little new information.
I hope everyone’s new year is off to a good start in spite of the harsh winter so far. Since our last meeting in November the Post participated in the December 7th Pearl Harbor Ceremony. Six Post members participated in the Wreaths Across America ceremony at Wood’s National Cemetery (see VFW Newspaper for picture and article). The Post Christmas Party was held on December 14th, close to 75 Post members and guests attended. In late December the Post ended the 2014 Calendar Raffle sales.
At the November meeting we welcomed new member Zach Mayo a marine with two tours in Afghanistan. Welcome Zach.
Also in January the Post had an opportunity to do some fund raising. Senior Vice Bill Pekrul’s son is the owner of M W Marine in Hales Corners. He generously allowed the Post some space at his exhibit at the Boat Show in West Allis. For two weekends in January we had Post volunteers at the Boat show distributing Poppies and patriotic bracelets, as well as doing some recruiting. It was a successful event, we raised over $1,000.00. Thanks to all the members who volunteered their time- Bill Pekrul, Bob Karwowski, Harold Kuehnel, Tim Baranzyk, John Lembach, Virgina Burger, Robert Birmingham, Jim Birmingham Theresa McGuire, Jim Fridl, Kristen Dodds, Tony Meucci and John Ustruck. A very special THANK YOU to Bill’s son for allowing us this opportunity.
On February 9th Post members Ken Kieck , Kristin Dodds and Zach Mayo volunteered to escort patients from the VA Medical Hospital’s ninth floor to an Admirals game. Most of these Veterans are wheelchair bound. Thanks for volunteering.
The Post has been looking at ways to increase the monthly meeting attendance. In past two newsletters I had wrote that if anyone wished to attend a meeting but had transportation issues they could contact me and I would attempt to make arrangements for a ride. At the October 2013 meeting it was decided by the Post members and also by the Auxiliary to ADJUST THE START TIME FOR OUR MONTHLY MEETINGS FROM 7:30 PM TO 6:30 PM. This is a temporary change in hopes of increasing our monthly attendance. This experiment will run from the November 25th meeting through the April meeting.
The January meeting was held in spite of the bitter cold temperatures the turnout was reasonable considering. During our social time after the meeting the Post and Auxiliary members paid recognition to Virginia Rocke-Orlowski for FIFTY YEARS as a VFW Auxiliary member. Congratulations Virginia on an outstanding accomplishment.
The Post has an e-mail address, it is GREENDALEVFW@GMAIL.COM. If you have any questions or concerns call or e-mail me. The Post’s web site is www.myvfw.org/wi/post10519. And once again if you would prefer to receive your Post Newsletter and Auxiliary Newsletters and other information updates by e-mail, send an e-mail to GREENDALEVFWNEWS @GMAIL.COM.
Attention: The Post is now on FACEBOOK. “GREENDALE VFW POST 10519” Thanks to Kristen Dodds for setting it up.
OUR NEXT REGULARLY SCHEDULED MEETING IS FERUARY 24TH AT 6:30 PM. I HOPE YOU CAN JOIN US. Nancy and I will be on vacation in a warm place. Senior Vice Theresa McGuire will conduct the meeting.
