Memorial Day weekend in the Madison area takes on many forms.
On Saturday the 26th and Sunday the 27th you can stop by Veterans’s Park in the Village of Black Earth for a “Salute to Veterans Community Celebration“, which includes live music and games. All proceeds go to the Black Earth Veterans Memorial.
On Monday the 28th (Memorial Day) stop by the Forest Hills Cemetery at 6:30 am to meet up with Gunny and Roger to place the wreaths at the gravesides of Lyall Beggs and Marion Cranefield.
At 8:10 you can join the festivities at Soldiers Rest, then at 8:30 at Union Rest and then at 8:50 at Confederate Rest.
At 9:30 the events at the state street entrance to the State Capitol Building begin with a band concert by the VFW Post 1318 band.
At 10:00 the memorial service begins which includes a rose ceremony and the reading of Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address.
